USA's Economic Disaster Tsunami Is Under Way. Ordinary Solutions Won't ...

Bush's presidency, with his rubberstamp Republican and Democratic congresses, was the earthquake. Now we face the economic disaster tsunami produced by the earthquake. The ordinary solutions-- income tax cuts, prime interest rate cuts-- they won't help and could make things worse. Visionary, courageous leadership is essential.

There's a story about the economy; Economic Stimulus Is Already Too Late in today's NY Times. . .

Wii, PS3 Celebrate First Birthdays; 'Halo 3' Expands; 'Ghostbusters ...

Last Friday, to celebrate the first year of the PlayStation 3's release in North America, Sony sent out birthday cakes to reporters.

Arriving at the MTV offices at 8:30 a.m., along with party hats and noisemakers, was an 11-inch, square yellow cake with vanilla butter icing on the outside, vanilla custard within and topped with a printed, edible image of a PS3.

Monday was the Wii's one-year birthday in America, and Nintendo sent nothing. But who should really be celebrating?

One year later, here's a look at how the two stack up:

Some comparisons are obvious: The Wii has handily outsold Sony's machine, and according to the NPD tracking group, in October there were 519,000 Wiis sold to 121,000 PS3s. The Wii crossed over as a cultural phenomenon, being used as a prop on late-night talk shows, while the PS3 largely went unnoticed.

Alice is trying to telephone Bob. Alice telephones Bob, and hears someone answer the phone in Bob's voice. They say "I'm sorry Alice, I don't want to talk to you", and hang up. Except, it wasn't actually Bob who answered the phone, it was Comcast using a special device to impersonate Bob's voice. Comcast might describe this as "delaying" Alice and Bob's conversation, on the theory that perhaps they'll keep calling each other until some day when Comcast isn't using their special device. They may also invoke the theory that Alice will call other people who are a lot like Bob, but aren't on Comcast's network, so her conversation will only be delayed.

If "delaying" traffic was Comcast's private intent, they were clearly making absurd and frequently incorrect assumptions about the protocols they were jamming.

Fuji's new cameras: 18x zoom, blog-mode, Panorama

The advanced FinePix S100FS (Film Simulation) digital camera provides an all-in-one solution with manual controls and functionality of a Digital-SLR, including both digital and manual stabilization through a mechanically stabilized "floating" lens element to reduce blur from the photographer's hand-shake, with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilization Technology, to reduce blur caused by subject movement.

The S100FS also features a 14.3x Fujinon manual zoom lens, an 8th generation Super CCD sensor with 11MP of resolution, a 2.5" tiltable LCD and ISO speeds up to ISO 6400 at 6MP and up to ISO 10,000 at 3MP. Bolstered by Fuji's Face Detection 2.0 Technology with Automatic Red Eye Removal, the camera's lens design can achieve maximum resolution at all focal lengths of 28mm-400mm equivalent and all aperture stop settings, according to the company.
