Daytona 500: Hendrick vs. Gibbs
Joe Gibbs Racing has a two-time champion and two of the series' rising stars. How big is this Daytona 500 showdown? "It's going to be the epic battle, and it should be the battle of a lifetime and the century," Gibbs driver Tony Stewart quipped. "There may not be another battle of this proportion for the rest of my life, my career, for the century." OK, so Stewart was exaggerating. Still, when Hendrick driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Gibbs driver Denny Hamlin each won a qualifying race Thursday, it set the stage for a heck of a show Sunday. Oh by the way, Hendrick's overshadowed driver, Casey Mears, is starting ninth. That means six of the top nine spots will be filled by drivers from those two teams. Gibbs driver Kyle Busch will roll off from the 24th position.
Affirmative Action for Men
Kevin, What is wrong with being an “elite." It serves many people well. If you are an “elite" you get to do things without working. For instance, a friend of mine got into law school despite having LSATs under 160 because his parents donated a lot of money. Indeed, I asked a pool of people (randomly selected from outside a coffee shop) who scored under 160, if they would refuse an offer of admission to an “elite" law school if they knew that they were getting in because they were “elite" and none of them said no! Amazing. Likewise, “elites" run our government, schools, hospitals, and just about everything. Quite well, I might add. Or, Kevin, are “elites" like “trial lawyers" the new bogeyman that you blame everything on? Larry, at 11:35 am EST on March 27, 2006 .
Sizing up our tournament teams
Although not a polished offensive threat, White creates offensive opportunities with her defense and wreaks havoc on opposing teams' guards. White must avoid the foul trouble that sometimes plagues her due to the high energy level she plays with. Tournament question mark: The bench. Teams in Div. 2 North will have a hard time matching Masco's starting five, and even though Bob Romeo has regularly played three or four players off the bench, only once has the bench been put in a position where it had an opportunity to win a game. In Masco's only loss — an overtime setback to Cardinal Spellman — both Stewart and White fouled out. The Chieftains aren't a dominant team with Stewart, White, or Burns spending significant minutes on the bench. DANVERS>p> Record: 12-8 Starting five: Kellie Macdonald, Fr.
Hospital kitchens fail hygiene, safety laws
The unhealthy kitchens are the latest blow to the NSW health system, already reeling over scandals including mismanagement of Royal North Shore Hospital and the bungled construction of the new Bathurst Hospital. A NSW Health spokeswoman said none of the issues incurred penalty notices and there was no threat to public health. "In all cases where there was an issue found at audit, remedial action was undertaken immediately." Brian Holloway, 56, had nothing but praise for the medical staff at Mona Vale Hospital during his long stay last year - but he had no love for the hospital's menu. He was appalled at being served what he said was quiches served flat like pancakes, rice tough enough to put through a slug gun and mashed potato like "quick-set cement". Share this article .
