What the heck is the difference among all those Canon ELPHs anyway?

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm a big fan of Canon's Digital ELPH series, but I can't tell you how many times friends have called me from Best Buy in a state of confusion about which one to buy. It's no wonder. Stop into any electronics store today and you'll find a slew of ELPH models and they all look pretty similar to the untrained eye. So here's a quick primer on what's what, broken down by resolution (since for better or for worse, that's how most people seem to shop for cameras). For comparison's sake, I included current pricing from Amazon.com.

12.1 Megapixels

Canon PowerShot SD950 IS ($340) - released August 2007: This is Canon's current top-of-the-line model (successor to last year's SD900 which you'll still find in some stores). It sports a sleek, rugged titanium body, 3.7x optical zoom lens (36- to 133mm), an Optical Image Stabilizer, Canon's latest face-detection autofocus technology, in-camera red-eye correction, and like all the current ELPHs, uses Canon's top-end DIGIC III image processor.

Heath Ledger found dead

231 was using pages of a dictionary for toilet paper and then couldn't spell when posting. Coincidence? I think not.

Some people use drugs to get high/party - it's called "recreational drug use". Some people use drugs to self medicate. Those people are hurt in some way.

FOR THE FILM BUFFCool gifts for movie fans this season come in both small and big packages.

Let's work our way up:

iPod Touch: The latest extension of the category-killing Apple gizmo looks like the skinny brother to the iPhone, the super cell that still hasn't come to Canada.

Tape of teen restrained in cell prompts probes

But the story hints at aggressive behaviour on the part of the (under age) girl. And at the end of the day, the girl's decision-making made this situation happen.

As Green Jerry points out, not breaking the law is the easiest way to avoid a situation like this. This girl learned the hard way. Posted 24/01/08 at 11:14 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

GIRL, 7, DIES IN QUAD BIKE CRASH

Young children, even as young as a 7 year old want all the latest gadgets and bikes, etc., whether they are appropriate for their age or not. Parents give in. These are both two very sad stories at Christmastime. My heart goes out to the parents.

Who you gonna call? Ghost Hunters

CORPUS CHRISTI — A team of eight ghost hunters prowled the parapets flanking the Ritz Theater stage Saturday, some holding magnetic field meters while seeking a female usher's spirit that is rumored to have startled balcony patrons decades ago.

The Gulf Coast Ghost Hunters also stalked the stage using parabolic microphones and infrared digital video cameras, trying to snare evidence of a stagehand spirit recently reported.

"It looked like a man," said Cynthia Saenz, 51, a draftsman who was inside the former picture palace with renovators last week. "Then it just dissipated."

Case manager Patrick Zapata and his brothers began investigating paranormal existence in 1992 by taking a cassette recorder and camera to cemeteries at night.

"Being touched for the first time by something you cannot see is something I will never forget," said Zapata, 33, a bridge inspector for the state.

No more crappy cell phone camera pictures if Kodak has its way

Today the company rolled out new chips that promise to make even the smallest cameras take better, more detailed photos.

Kodak says its KAC-05020 Image Sensor is a 1.4 micron, 5-megapixel device that allows capture of high quality images in small cameras, with resolution that equals what is available from current devices using larger, 1.75 micron pixel CMOS designs.

Kodak said unlike other small-pixel sensors which can produce poor images, especially under low light conditions, the 1.4 micron pixel used in the KAC-05020 Image Sensor changes this convention, providing image quality that can equal or surpass what is available from current 1.75 micron-based devices.Light sensitivity in the new sensor is enhanced by using the company's Truesense Color Filter Pattern technology, which adds panchromatic, or "clear," pixels to the red, green and blue pixels already on the sensor.
