| South China Villagers Slam Pollution From Rare Earth Mine
HONG KONG—Villagers in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong are battling an illegal rare earth mine in their neighborhood which they say has poisoned the local water supply and wiped out their fish-farm stock and rice crops. Around 600 residents of Shangmankeng village, near Heyuan city in the northeastern part of the province, have had their lives devastated by severe pollution from the mine, according to one campaigner, identified only by his surname, Li. “Local officials, corporations, and triads [Chinese criminal organizations] are all in cahoots on this, otherwise this project would never have gotten off the ground," Li told RFA's Cantonese service. 'We can't work' “The rice crop that was already sown has totally failed. We can't work.

What to do with your old digital camera–reuse, reduce, recycle!
Between the flurry of new camera announcements at CES and PMA and year-end holiday purchases, chances are pretty good that you or someone you know has a new digital camera. The question is what to do with the old camera. If it's in working order, you could pass it along to someone less fortunate than yourself (in my case, my 9-year-old niece who love, love, loves the old 4 megapixel snapshooter that was festering in my defunct electronics drawer). But if your old camera is beyond repair and not worth foisting on some poor unsuspecting Luddite, then seeking out an option to recycle the product will win you some karmic points with the environment. One option is to check with the manufacturer of your camera. More and more vendors are providing easy ways to recycle their old products.

Black Holes spinning near the Speed of Light
Einstein's theory of relativity, Supermassive Blackholes Black Holes spinning near the Speed of Light By Joshua Hill Wednesday, January 16, 2008 We've dedicated a lot of attention to black holes of late, with rogue holes roaming the universe and other holes shooting energy at harmless nearby galaxies. So it is not a surprise that the research keeps coming. Supermassive black holes, according to new research, are approaching the speed of light. Nine galaxies were examined by NASA using the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and found each to contain black holes pumping out jets of gas in to the surrounding space. "We think these monster black holes are spinning close to the limit set by Einstein's theory of relativity, which means that they can drag material around them at close to the speed of light," said Rodrigo Nemmen, the study's lead author and a visiting graduate student at Penn State University.
Who will be the Nation Builder of 2007?
Barlow has written many books to call attention to what is happening behind the scenes in government and has worked hard travelling the country to inform Canadians. The work of Ms. Barlow and the Council has helped to bring Canadians the information they need to stay safe, to keep our Canadian values and maintain our sovereignty in a political climate that would take all of that away in a very secretive heart beat.
